Argh, Belmont.

Ok..apparently I'm stilla sophomore.

Here is the apparent breakdown:

60 credit hours is junior standing (which it is outside of the Music Business department), 64 credit hours (which it is in regards to getting an internship), or 65 credit hours (which it is in regards to signing up for audio engineering classes).

So, I'm 1 credit shy of being given Junior priority in the AET realm.

Typical Belmont.
haha..

and now I must scamper off to Part II of microecon class.

It's been a good while since I updated. But life is good. Finals week was the most relaxing week I had all semester. Sounds silly, eh? But.. oh well. I need to play geetar more, dangit. I miss it. Anyone want to start a band next semester?? Marion, Christy, Morgan, Sarah (on weekends)?

And I'm home, and while I'm glad to live elsewhere, I love being here as well.

Hope you guys are well.
-L

Howdyhowdyhowdy.

So. I am in Nashville. I have been here since Friday. What a rollercoaster it has been emotionally since then! But I really am good, now. I can't say that I'm happy to be here... but.. I'm definitely more excited to be here than I was on Sunday. Mr. Walchotz, the survey-o'-music-biz professor, has an attitude of enthusiasm towards the industry that is very contagious. It reminded me of why I wanted to come here to begin with.

I think I will soon grow sick of my bedroom as I'm spending half my day in here. For some odd reason, I find that I need to sleep a lot. By this I mean naps in addition to an 8 hour slumber from eleven o'clock to seven AM. I imagine my meandering around with a chivalrous Bruster's employee until four thirty in the morning a couple of times last week had something to do with it. Speaking of that lad. I once again made a vow not to date..anyone else, that is. Bwahaha. Life is good.

My first day of university-level classes was bearable. The only difficult part is making it from the Health and Human Performance Building all-the-frickin-way to Massey in 8 minutes. Haha. It also smells in front of that random Asian Cuisine restaurant that I have to walk in front of. Oh well. It makes the sprint a little more colorful, I suppose.

I have a lot of time to do homework. See what I mean?

Monday, Wednesday, Friday:
8AM: Health and Fitness Concepts (don't have this one on fridays though..yay!)
9AM: Evil Computer Fundamentals Class
11AM: Survey of Music Business
12PM: Understanding the Bible

Tuesday and Thursday:
8AM: Survey of Recording Technology
11AM: Basic Math Crap

I'm done by 1 on MWF, and by 12:30 on Tuesday Thursday. Pretty spiffy, eh?

I think next semester I'm going to try to get classes on MTWTh, if at all possible. or maybe just on tuesday/thursday. I could come home a lot more, then. But I might be bored out of my mind the weeks I'm down here. Oh well. We will see, I guess....

Wow that was a long entry. I guess that makes up for me not updating hardly at all over the summer, right?

Well, Monday morning, I joined the ranks of the less wise.

Yes, Laryssa got her wisdom teeth pulled out. At 7-freaking-thirty AM.

And I don't remember a darn thing. I think I fell asleep before they injected me with the anesthesia, because the lady said there would be 3 shots, and I fell asleep after the 2nd one. Unless that is all part of their scheme.. *scratches chin, then recoils in slight pain from the agitation of her swollen chin*

It wasn't that bad. The worst part was the frickin' pain medicine. It made me nauseous to the point of vomiting, and I would rather be in pain than throw up, so I didn't taken any more pain medicine after that.. which really wasn't bad. methinks the first week of having braces was worse, since I couldn't chew anything at all...

Anyways! I hope you all are well.

PS. Oh! Here are some pictures from when I was exuding my playa-ness on Sunday. Whitney was supposed to come, but she hurt her knee last-minute and couldn't.. so it was me driving around three 18-20 year old guys.

Seth's "pissed off face".

Levi's "pissed off face".

I don't think Philip was paying much attention to what was going on.

Seth's interesting face.

Me sporting safe driver habits by checking the review mirror. (We made it all the way from Roanoke to Douthat State Park in 40 minutes, when according to mapquest, it was supposed to take an hour and 23 minutes -- and I didn't take the interstate, like they recommended. oops..)

Random goodness.

'twas a good time, though we wound up ditching early to go to Seth's house and swim in a chlorinated pool. ah well.

Hi. I hope you had a good weekend.
And I still hope you had a good weekend, even if you do not read the rest of this entry.

To whom it may concern: Is it too early for me to start sending Belmont my application + other stuff? I've heard transferring there is "hell", so I cannot imagine how getting a head-start could make matters worse.

In other scholastic news, your friend/online acquaintance got an 85 on the government test. Factor in the curve, and it magically transforms into a 95. Hooray! I hope the teacher wasn't just spouting some of his socialistic nonsense when he suggested an A average exempts you from the final exam.

here are the two fliers to advertise for the switchfoot norva show:
black&white + colorful

I spent more time on the first one.. look to the left of the info and you can see tim jumping!..sort of..

Anyways..have a nice day..even if you don't comment!

I've been incredibly blessed this semester, with decent people and good teachers. Yesterday, my gov't teacher said a handful of things that made me happy:

"To get your extra credit points, you sign a sheet at the end of the semester. We have an honor program here: I won't know if you didn't actually do the work, but just remember, God is watching. He really is."
"Which is worse: drugs or casual sex?...[class discussion]...that's right. Both can kill you."

He's an advocate of the orthodox point of view, which makes me downright ecstatic, since we live in a time where the ACLU will tear apart this country's moral foundation for "the good" of one individual rather than for the TRUE good of a handful of individuals-- us, the American people.

My college composition teacher has incredibly high standards-- I spent about 4-5 hours revising my 600 word essay, trying to make it as descriptive, clear and grammatically correct as possible-- and I barely got an A on it. Rewarding, but frustrating?

I dished out $14 for the semi-sellout named Chris Carrabba. <-- Sentence that needs clarity, unless you actually purchased Chris Carrabba, the person?
I dished out $14 for Dashboard Confessional's "A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar". <-- Better.
I paid $14 for Dashboard Confessional's latest album, and I am quite pleased with it. <-- Good.

It's all Daniel's fault, anyway. I used to not care much for Dashboard, and then my comrade kept talking about 'em until it brainwashed me into liking 'em. Ah, peer pressure.

I've got my Bush-Cheney '04 bumper sticker on my car.
I'm gonna wear my VOTE t-shirt with the "Not Fonda Kerry" button tomorrow.
I'm ready to pounce on the next person who says, "I'm voting for Kerry!"

Why am I voting Bush?
Because I care about my grandchildren.
Crazy, isn't it?

I want to them to grow up in a country where they will not have to worry about being blown up on street corners..
09/11/01 was a horrific day. The worst in my short life...and I don't live in New York City, or know anyone who does.
I do not want my kids to endure anything close to that kind of terror.

Gosh. That is the passion here.
For future generations.

It's like spreading the love of Christ.
It isn't for personal gain...
It's out of uncontrolable passion..and compassion.
(compassion I need to start showing...)

When will I open up my heart and let You out..

Listen to me drone on about community college, and then COMMENT.

I'm a bit freaked out in regards to the future, but as of this tiny moment in time, I am quite content.

Here is the itinerary for all of the teachers at UCLA on the hill:

Let's spend half an hour handing out homework!
Let's spend half an hour talking about COMMAS!
Let's spend half an hour talking about scientific notation!
Let me give you the list of test questions & test answers so you don't have to buy them from one of your peers!
Now that you know what's on the test, listen to me drone on about anything and everything unrrelated to whatever course this is!
But you HAVE to show up for class!
You can't miss more than 2 classes all semester or you FAIL!

......

Well, anyway.
I got a 92 on the descriptive essay.. there's room for improvement, but that's still a decent grade, as this teacher said she wouldn't hand out 100s often..if ever..

RANDOM:
This nice, 40-something year old lady from my Biology class ran up behind me and asked, "Laryssa!!! Do you have a boyfriend?"
"Uhhhhhhhhhhhh......no?..."
She exclaimed, "Whaaaat?!"
I explained, ".....I'm going to wait before I get involved in any of that.." (Although at this moment in time, "'attempting' to wait" may've been more appropriate..)
She said, "That's probably wise."

I saw Switchfoot again today at 6:25AM..only it was the FIRST Dare You to Move video.

In other news: My friend Archie and I are going to help out at the Children's Jubilee (alternative to trick-o'treating) as John Kerry and John Edwards.
New journal look..

New journal look, in honor of switchfoot's new video.
Late last night was the first I'd heard of Switchfoot's new version of Dare You to Move.
This morning, I was ready-to-go a little earlier than usual..6:25AM.
I flip through the channels and say to my dad, "Hey. Switchfoot has a new video out. I'm gonna look for it."
*channel surfs through MTV, MTV2, VH1, and Fuse*
5 minutes later.
*Sees a pier, with four guys standing underneath, clutching instruments.. no music is playing yet..*
Says to self, "Woah. This is it."

And it was.

These boys have grown up so much since I saw 'em for the first time...well, I should probably say they've grown in terms of popularity..or, their hair has grown OUT...

THEN..

NOW...

I'm not an emotional person, but you couldn't tell that at the rate of how often I swear to put this journal to death, and successfully do so for a short period of time..

Anyway.

I feel like I'm being torn in eighteen different directions. I feel as though I'm addicted to the rush of success and terrified of failure. Which is good, maybe?

Except, it's starting to seap into other areas of my life that really don't need to be disturbed right now.

Take LOOOOVE into account. Yes. The dreaded 4-letter word. I'm so curious about the whole lot of it, being loved and what not, that I fear I'll lead a certain someone on.
I constantly have to remind myself why I can't allow myself to chase a guy like that, and the more I think about it, the weaker my defense becomes. It's gotten so bad, I'm relieved to wake up in the morning and have my brain be rested-- to have had a break from just..thinking.
Not to mention, having a "crush" is one of the greatest torments I've faced. Forget college. Hormones, anyone?
It occupies all of your free thoughts; it taints your visions for the future, if you can even remember what they are. It questions your integrity. It flat-out messes with your mind, and there is no right answer, since it isn't wrong to have these feelings. I can't even remember my "waiting for this special guy" agenda since this current guy fits the profile. I just know it isn't the time, or place, and perhaps not even the person. I swore I wouldn't sacrifice my dreams for a guy, but now I'm seeing how easily it would be to do so.

Isn't love patient? But when you love someone, do you not have the urge to see them again as soon as you've parted?

Additionally..
I've been stumbling over EVERY verse in the Bible that discusses sexual immorality, lust, etc. I didn't even know it was discussed in so many letters in the New Testament. I don't think it's any accident that I've been seeing it so much, either.

I think I need to play guitar a bit more on a regular basis, since that just about solves everything. And think less about all of this, and more about my schooling. And talk to the man upstairs, and much more frequently.. since He is the Man with The Plan.

Eventful weekend.
The most redneck of days was yesterday, when myself and three other cronies rode in the back of a pickup truck for approximately 2.8 miles to a drive-in theater.

I hope your weekend was grand.

PURPLE DOOR REVIEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

(for reference: OMG = Oh My Gosh.)

OMG OMG OMG OMG IT WAS SO FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 LIT ME REVIEW IT 4 U

-- COPELAND ROXED
-- COOL HAND LUKE SUXED

THE END!

Copeland did well.. lots of potential, those guys have. Cool Hand Luke has beautiful music, don't get me wrong.. but they were incredibly boring. The lead guitarist played with his back to the crowd about 97% of the time. "Cinematic" is a gorgeous, gorgeous song though.

And then........it rained. Hard.

My chums Levi and Daniel got to see about 1½ songs by Pillar before the storm, and then after much confusion and wetness, we all found each other and left. We didn't go back the next day, either, primarily because no one else was fond of fighting the elements to see a few more bands play. Disappointing, yes, but we wound up going to Baltimore instead and having an amusing car ride.
It's probably better we came home Saturday anyway, since I woke up around 3 and threw up and that would've been nasty had we been camping out.

Anyways..

Community college is interesting, since it no longer matters what everyone else did for the first 12 years they spent learning--be it in public, private, or home...schools. I saw two familiar faces within 6 seconds, but the period in which I met one and then the other was 6 years. How odd, to have many people you've known for many years in many different areas of your life...and have 'em all thrown together.

Anyways. Enough of all that. I'm constantly thinking of those of you who have it 100x as hard this semster..being away at college, away from any familiarity by many miles.
From what I can tell through this here Internet..you're all very strong and indepedent people-- no doubt you will be filling this here LJ friends page with your success in the months/weeks/days/hours ahead..

IM in the meantime.
<3.

! my last day of being a minor.

Went to the mall today with Kristen. I found a watch (at Hot Topic) that had stars on the wristband..but the face is enormous and heavy, so I may look for a replacement in the years to come.

Anyway.

NOTE:
I was at a gas station today and saw the sticker that read, "IF YOU WERE BORN AFTER THIS DAY IN 1986 YOU CAN'T BY TOBACCO PRODUCTS", and then I realized that would be the last time that sticker applied to me. Oh yes. Special trip tomorrow to the Exxon station to buy everyone a round of CIGARRETTES.

Anyway, for something interesting:
SWITCHFOOT DREAM:
It was at someplace like the Norva, except the balcony was above the stage. I was with Lydia, and I saw Jon sitting up in the balcony talking to some folks. I began devising ways to sneak up there, when Tim and Jerome appeared in the middle of the floor. Jerome called out to us each by name, and then Tim was like, "I don't really like to sing, but here goes" and started SINGING and playing bass while Jerome played guitar. (It did actually sound like Tim's voice..too bad you can't tape record dreams..)
And then my friend Daniel grabbed a guitar and started playing along, then he handed me the guitar and I played with 'em. Oh, and I tried to take a picture with my camera phone by lying on the floor? And then dr. ew appeared and started talking to Jerome. Weird.

Fun stuff.
Oh. Choicehotels.com or hotelschoice.com or something has a deal where if you stay in two separate hotels of the same chain, you can stay at a third one for free. This may come in handy for concertage....
